This painting originally belonged to Major
General Malcolm Smith Mercer, a major
patron of Carl Ahrens between 1908 and
1916, when Mercer was killed in battle. This
painting was not part of the 1911 exhibition
of the Mercer Collection, so it is likely this
one was painted after 1911. It is currently
part of the collection of Malcolm Smith Mercer
Hamilton.
