Do You Own an Ahrens?

If you own a painting, drawing, print, or illustration that you believe may be by Carl Ahrens, we would love to hear from you. Each newly identified piece can add an important detail to the ongoing record of Ahrens’ life and art. Kim Bullock has compiled a private catalog of known work that currently includes roughly 450 items.

If you would like your piece or pieces to be included in this catalog, the most helpful first step is to take clear photographs of the front and back of the work, including any signature, labels, inscriptions, exhibition stickers, or frame details. Please also note the dimensions, medium, title if known, and any known history connected with the piece.

Ahrens was often negligent in dating his pieces and was known to write titles on the back of original frames, which may have been changed over the years. By providing Kim Bullock with an image of your piece, she may be able to help you identify when/where the work was completed. If the image is clear enough, she may ask permission to include it on this website.
